I play with a 300 battlesize and I also increase the reinforcements to 100 (playing ACOK). Otherwise you'll really have to grind your way up to a high renown. The way around this is to increase the renown maximum (with TweakMB) and the actual renown you get from each battle (as a percentage). So then, if you are greatly outnumbered and are going to get 50 renown you might get that amount for 2 or 3 battles, but you'll only get it once for the big battle with the higher battle size. But with a large battlesize you may only fight one big battle because the reinforcements will include all the troops both sides have. With a smaller battlesize you'll go through all the allowed reinforcements and then have to fight a new battle against the remaining forces. I think you'll take a renown penalty for large battles in that you will fight fewer battles since all the troops are coming together in one battle.
